Watermelon sorbet is sooo good, sweet and cold on a hot summer day! Of course, one of the biggest challenges is not eating all the watermelon before you make a sorbet with it!
Ingredients
- 2 cups of seeded or seedless watermelon
- 1/2 cup sugar
Add the sugar to 1/2 cup water in a saucepan, and cook on medium until the sugar dissolves, stirring often.
Place watermelon in a blender, add the sugar water, blend until well mixed. Every watermelon is different, some are sweeter than others, so you want to taste test. It's a hard job, but someone's gotta do it!
If you have an ice cream maker, use it to freeze the sorbet.
If you DON'T have an ice maker, never fear. Add the watermelon mixture to a quart jar with a lid. I like the Ziplock ones you can find in the grocery store. Place in the refrigerator, and every 20 minutes take out and stir contents, to keep the ice crystals small. Freeze for about 3-4 hours. I like mine a little soft. If you do too, take it out and let it sit about 5 minutes before you scoop.
Once you make it a few times, you will want to start experimenting with different ingredients. I love adding a little lemon juice, or extremely thin sliced lemon rind for the texture! Adding fresh mint is also wonderful, just put it in the blender with the watermelon. Or, if you have access to fresh lavender, it's also delicious, just add to the blender! Enjoy!
